Growth of the Healthcare Industry

The healthcare industry is experiencing undeniable growth. In fastest growing occupation surveys taken by the U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics, healthcare positions like physical and occupational therapy, physical therapy assistance, and family and family therapist take the top spots on the charts. Compared to any other industry, the healthcare industry has the highest potential of growth in the United States clear out to 2016.

What is causing this spike? While it's fortunate to have an industry experiencing rapid and stable growth in the current economy, the question of why is up for interpretation. Researchers believe the growth of the healthcare industry is due to several different factors:

  • Healthcare reform sweeping over the United States, facilitating an endless amount of jobs as transitions happen and everything moves from paper to computer
  • The baby boomer generation is aging, and there is a natural parallel between age and the amount of healthcare required to meet with individuals
  • The average life span continues to increase as healthcare continues to advance
  • Continual growth of population in general

With the healthcare industry on the rise, and with generous income, it is an ideal industry for a person to choose for their future occupation.
